Research Interests:
In 2012 I started a promising laboratory based regenerative medicine research project at the University of Manchester ( Institute of Inflammation - Repair and Regenerative Medicine led by Prof. J Hoyland and Prof. G. Cossu) studying autologous bowel growth in embryonic mice. This project focuses on the role of TGFB1 and R-Spondin 1 on villi growth and bowel elongation during embryonic development. I have made links with Prof. D Warburton, Director Developmental Biology and Regenerative Medicine Training Program and Shared Laboratory Saban Research Institute, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles – University of Southern California (USA) for collaborative studies on bowel regeneration.
I have also supervised a European based experimental studies on distraction enterogenesis : Catholic University of Rome . These studies investigate the use of osmotic expanders for bowel dilatation. Further studies in large animals is required.
