Biography: Professor Norma Ojeda earned her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Texas at Austin. She holds a master’s degree in Demography from El Colegio de Mexico, and a license in Sociology from the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Her work has been published in more than 60 articles and book chapters in specialized journals and books in Mexico, Spain, Chile, Venezuela and the United States. She has received several awards. She continues as a National Researcher in Mexico’s National System of Researchers. Spain’s Autonomous University of Barcelona awarded her the Catalan National Chair and the Sorbonne University presented her with the Alfonso Reyes Chair. She has been a Fulbright Scholar twice. Her research has received funding from the Mexican National Council for Science and Technology, the Ford Foundation, and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. Prior to coming to SDSU, Professor Ojeda held academic positions at UNAM, and El Colegio de la Frontera Norte (COLEF). At COLEF, she started the Population Studies Master Program and served as the chairperson of departments of Population Studies and Gender and Family Studies as well as director of its Reproductive Health Program.
