Biography: Besides being an eminent clinician and a researcher, Professor Talwar has contributed heavily towards Medical Education and its regulation in India. During his tenure, as Chairman Board of Governors, Medical Council of India, several mementous decisions were taken such as start of National Entry and Exit Examination (NEET) and compulsory rural posting in PHC for eligibility to join MD/MS courses. This will ensure regular availability of medical doctors in PHC in the country and also give an exposure to the fresh graduates about the rural medicine. Under his chairmanship, the Medical Council of India also prepared a curriculum for initiating BSc course for middle level health workers i.e. Community Health Officers for the health services particularly sub centres. This course has been accepted by the Government of India and is being started soon under the ambit of National Board of Examination (NBE). He has contributed articles on “Medical Education” in many National Newpapers (The Tribiune, Indian Express).
