Biography: Professor Akgün received his Bachelor’s degree from the Middle East Technical University (METU), Department of Geological Engineering and his Master’s and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Arizona, Department of Geological Engineering. Professor Akgün is a faculty member at the Middle East Technical University (METU), Department of Geological Engineering, Ankara, Turkey, Associate Editor of The Journal of Solid Waste Technology & Management, Secretary General of the Turkish Clay Science Society and Vice President of the Earthquake Engineering Association of Turkey. He has been employed as a Senior Design Associate at Environtech Consultants, Inc., Boca Raton, Florida and, as a Senior Geotechnical/Geo-environmental Engineer at Geotech, Inc., Maple Shade, New Jersey before becoming a faculty member at METU. He is a Registered Professional Engineer with specializations in engineering geology and geotechnical engineering. Professor Akgün has authored a total of 3 book chapters, 2 encyclopedia chapters, 60 journal papers and 114 conference papers.
