Arianna Calistriwasborn in Verona in 1973. In 1997, she graduated in Biological Sciences with best marks and honours (110/110 cum laude) at the University of Padova, Italy. In 2002 she obtained a Ph.D. in Microbiological Science at the University of Genova, Italy. During this period she focused her research on the molecular interactions between HIV-1 and HSV-1. From 1999 to 2004 she was first a Visiting researcher then a Postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Pathology, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA were she was interested in the analysis of the complex interplay between HIV-1 and the host cell. During these studies she contributed to the discovery that a set of cellular proteins belonging to the endosomal complex required for transport (ESCRT) machinery are involved in the budding of the HIV-1. Currently I am an Associate Professor in Microbiology at the Department of Molecular Medicine, University of Padova, Italy.
