Biography: Antonio Vaz de Macedo, MD, is currently the Head of the Haematology Clinic at Hospital da Polícia Militar (Military Hospital) in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, and was recently, from October 2015 to March 2018, the Head of the Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) Unit at Hospital das Clínicas, Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), one of the major public university hospitals in this country. He graduated in Medicine in 2004 and, in 2007, while still undertaking his residency programme in Haematology, he had his first experience as an observer at the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program-Division of Hematology, Oncology and Transplantation, Medical School, University of Minnesota, USA, which certainly helped him through his first years as a health practitioner and researcher in the field. Some years later, from 2010 to 2011, he worked as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Diagnostic Workup, Faculty of Medicine, UFMG, and, in 2012, he gained his Master´s Degree in Health Sciences - Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine (UFMG), after studying biomarkers in febrile neutropenia in haematological and HSCT patients.
