Special interest in the development of the atherosclerotic process during aging and the biochemical changes at the origin of the increased cardiovascular risk in the elderly.
We are particularly interested in HDL lipoproteins and their ability to maintain cholesterol homeostasis via their role in the regulation of reverse cholesterol transport.
We focus on paraoxonase 1 (PON1), a protein associated exclusively with HDL and whose activity would be related to the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and its clinical
manifestations. Other research projects underway in our laboratory are the use of positron emission imaging with different radiotracer, including 18F-‐FDG and 18F-‐NaF
to determine the fragility of atherosclerotic plaque and to assess the risk of acute cardiovascular events.
