Open bite is defined as the absence of vertical overlap between the upper and lower incisors. The combination of skeletal, dental and functional factors contributes powerfully to its establishment and aggravation. The key to orthodontic treatment of anterior open bite starts with an accurate diagnosis of the discrepancy. Treatment can start at early ages with an interceptive phase that can help preventingmaxillo-facial surgery, which has been considered for a long time the most effective treatment to correcting open bite cases in adults. However, due to its many limitations and the arise of new technologies, such as mini-implants, orthodontic treatment of moderate to severe open bite has nowadays proven itself as a pragmatic alternative to surgery. The following presentation will highlight the application of mini-implants in the treatment of anterior open bite cases in adults and will discuss its long term stability.

Biography:
Hajjis a specialist in Orthodontics and Dento-facial Orthopedics. She is currently working as lead orthodontist in Palmira Specialized Medical Center, Abu Dhabi, UAE, while also operating a private practice in Lebanon. Dr. Hajj graduated in 2012 with a Masters in Orthodontics from the University of Saint Joseph Beirut, Lebanon. She was on the Deanʼs Honor Listthroughout her academic career and was recognized with the highest honors award upon graduation for being on top of her class during the complete dental program. Dr. Hajjalso received a Diploma in 3-Dimensional Imaging in 2013 from the University of Toulouse III-Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France. Shewas awarded the “Edgard Chaar International Prize of Periodontology” in 2008, Beirut, Lebanon. Dr. Hajj areas of expertise include mini-screws, aligners, 3-D Imaging, fixed and removable orthodontics.
